Transportation Definitions
Designated School – The designated school is the school that the student should be attending (based on the student’s residence and the school’s attendance area) and not the school or program of choice.
Eligible Student – A student who is attending their designated school and resides more than 2.4 kms from their designated school. As St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Schools would receive transportation funding for this student, there is no urban transportation fee charged for these students.
Ineligible Student – A student who is attending a school and resides less than 2.4 kms from their designated school. As St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Schools does not receive transportation funding for this student, there will be an urban transportation fee charged for these students if bussing is available. See information below on fees. NOTE: Sacred Heart School is not obligated to provide bussing for ineligible students, however if transportation is supplied, there is a yearly per student fee of $175.00, and $300.00 per family.
Distance – The 2.4 kilometre for eligibility is measured from the student’s residence to the designated school including roadways, walkways, alleyways, parkways, sidewalks, etc. as per Alberta Education regulations. NOTE: The distance will change as new subdivisions, roadways, walkways, etc. are added, as well as when municipalities update their maps.
